How To Satisfy Your Travel Itch While Stuck In Quarantine

Missing travel and feeling hungry for a new adventure? Join the club (no, really…is there a club?)!

I have to admit, writing about travel right now is a bit depressing. Stuck at home dreaming about travel recently has not been the same as it was in past years, BUT I’ve found a few ways to satisfy my travel itch while stuck at home that leave me inspired instead of down in the dumps!

I’ve laid out the 6 things you can do right now (that I’m also doing) to help you dream about future travel without the crushing feeling of “will I ever get on a plane again?”, because yes, we will, but it will take some time.

1. Take this time to think about how to travel more intentionally

Have you been considering your environmental impact in recent and past travels? Do you want to reconsider your travel values and goals? Since we have all of this time to plan our dream travels in advance, use that time to your advantage! Do your research on sustainable airlines and destinations and local business you can support on your trip. Look into what airlines are taking the right steps to keep their passengers safe right now as well, and make a note to book through them when you’re ready to travel. Grab my eco-friendly travel guide for tips on how to stay sustainable while you’re travelling!

2. Take a virtual tour

I’m talking museums, theme parks and zoos/aquariums. There are so many out there that are free, and can give you an idea of what you want to see in person when we’re able to travel safely again! Take a look at Taste Of Home’s compiled list of free online tours you can take here! The various zoo live cams bring me SO much joy, I highly recommend!!

3. Learn about the history of where you’re dreaming of going

This is something I never really considered, but since we have this extra time to plan travel, I’m sure it would greatly enrich your stay once you know more about the local history! Brush up on some basic history about the place you want to go, look into the significance of popular landmarks, and familiarize yourself with the local culture of your destination. You won’t regret it.

4. Watch travel movies and tv shows

What’s a better way to get travel inspiration than by diving into a wanderlust themed movie or tv series?! Even just a movie set in another part of the world can insight wanderlust, and make you want to add that destination to your list, so check out my list of feel-good wanderlust-fulfilling movies here!

5. Plan what you’re sure is to survive the pandemic

Since the fate of many tours and restaurants is so uncertain right now, plan what likely won’t be impacted by Covid. I’m talking historical sights like landmarks, historic buildings and neighbourhoods to visit, and natural attractions like mountains, lakes, rainforests, volcanos. You get the idea, yeah?

6. Browse travel blogs and Pinterest for daily travel inspiration

Of course I had to mention the travel blogger community! If you’re looking for travel inspiration or want solid info on your dream destination, travel blogs are the way to go. Check out Pinterest travel boards for all kinds of resources, and follow some travel bloggers on Instagram; a lot of them are going through past travel highlights right now that are sure to inspire!
